In the early 1980s, retired geography professor Marvin Creamer set out to do something that hadn’t been done for 1000 years — if ever. He left his home in Cape May, NJ and set out across the Atlantic in his 35′ sailboat, determined to sail around the world, using no instruments at all. His books include Sailing by Starlight, Leveling the Playing Field, and annotations of Joshua Slocum’s classic Sailing Alone Around the World and Richard Henry Dana’s Two Years Before the Mast. Rod lives in Depoe Bay, OR with his wife, Lesley, and spends much of the summer traveling the West Coast in a small motorhome.
